Day 54 - Manitoulin Island Loop

0 kms - Total so far 4613.03 km

90.1 kms Loop - http://ridewithgps.com/trips/5743689

It took us for ever to get going this morning however by 9:50am we finally left.  The ride to Providence Bay was 30km away and we got there fairly quickly since we were riding with naked bikes.

A pretty hip couple

In Providence Bay we checked out the marina and were amazed at how clear the water was.  It was tempting to jump in for a swim in the turquoise water, we did not come prepared to swim.  At the beach there was a great park for the kids and for the adults they had exercise machines.  We tried them all and below is a short video of how one of them works.  Most required you to lift your own body weight for resistance.  We had lunch at the only restaurant opened and still in business, the food was excellent.  There are two restaurants for sale if anyone is interested.

We think the right number of lures is N+1

Clear turquoise water

Many sandhill herons, there were many more not captured in the picture.  We think 40-50 were present.

Before returning to the camp ground we went to South Baymouth for ice cream and check out our ride for tomorrow morning.  We also came across four cyclists who like us are fully loaded and travelling to various places across Canada.  They were just about to board the ferry.  Then as we stopped for more Cheezies at the gas station we saw four cyclists who had just gotten off the ferry.  We unfortunately did not get a chance to give them a heads up on what to expect between Sault Ste-Marie and Wawa.

  1. "We unfortunately did not get a chance to give them a heads up on what to expect between Sault Ste-Marie and Wawa." Your comment reminds me of stories about the early days in Canada wherein scouts and trackers shared information with pioneers travelling to the West. Now to go listen to the song "Canada's Really Big" by The Arrogant Worms.

  2. It was well worth spending the day in Manitoulin island. Having exercises machine is a great idea. Nice blue sky in the boat picture.
