Today we left Thunder Bay at 7:15am after a much needed break. We took Lakeshore Drive for 39 km which allowed us to avoid Hwy 17/11 for the first leg of our trip along the North Shore of Lake Superior. The scenery was nothing to write home about but we are being promised spectacular vistas from Nipigon to Sault Ste-Marie or "The Soo" the way the locals call it.

We made it to Nipigon in record time and we were setting up our tent at the Marina campground when Kyle pulled in to set up camp as well. This is the first everrrrrrr we get somewhere before Kyle, we just started earlier than him I guess.

We think our new shirts will work out to protect us from the sun. On Tuesday Hélène decided to ship some stuff home so we have a little less weight to carry with us.
No bears were spotted but Hélène was able to spot two deer. Tomorrow our destination is Terrace Bay.

Hurrah for an update for Day 40. When I didn't see it earlier this morning I was wondering what could have happened. Overcome by bloodloss after countless black fly bites? Couldn't see the road for the clouds of mosquitos? Helene didn't spot that last bear? Ran out of Hawkins Cheezies?

Les fleurs que vous voyez souvent sont des lupins. La couleur la plus commune est celle de la photo. Il y en a aussi de couleur rose, jaune, etc. J'ai vu un champ multicolore aux Iles de la Madeleine......super.

Les fleurs mauves que vous avez vu sont des lupins. On en retrouve beaucoup dans ce coin de pays et dans les Maritimes.
ReplyDeleteThe white birds you saw in Nipigon are the american white pelican, a threatened species in Ontario but Lake Nipigon is home for more than 700 nests. They are one of the largest birds in North America, with a wingspan of three metres. Vous êtes bien chanceux de les avoir vus… je n’ai pas cette espèce d'oiseaux inscrite dans ma liste d’observation d’oiseaux.
