  1. Hi there! First off, great website! I've been planning for my own trip from Montreal to Vancouver this summer, and your website had been a valuable resource.
I have a question for you though. I want to do daily blog updates similar to yours, and was wondering how you managed to get access to Internet every day? Also, was cell phone service an issue?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Jackie

First of all thank you for the compliments on our blog, we did spend quite a bit of time producing it.

To answer your question about Internet access most campgrounds and motels have WiFi Internet access. Also we often stopped at public places with free WiFi when we did not have it at night, for example coffee shops, visitor centers, restaurants and so on. Both our phones are with Rogers and we had service almost all the time, however we did not use our phones very much since we keep family and friends informed via the blog.

We had a Notebook with us to blog. For the evenings where we did not have WiFi access we wrote up the blog entry in a text file and the next day we would update the blog. All the blog posts(shell part) were prepared before leaving for the trip they were all in draft mode with a preset date and time, this way if we were late one day posting the entry it still showed with the date entry it was meant to be on. Some campgrounds' WiFi was quite slow in the evenings so in those cases the blog update would go on-line between 5-6am when everyone else was sleeping and off the Internet. For our next trip we will investigate how much it would cost us to do Internet tethering off our phones.

Good luck with your trip, we would love to have your blog address and follow you along your journey. If you have more questions do not hesitate to contact us, we could also exchanged phone# if required.

      Hélène & Daniel
