Day 50 - Sault Ste-Marie to Thessalon

91.1 km - Total so far 4,334.63 km - http://ridewithgps.com/trips/5697499

We left The Soo shortly after 7am, Google Map suggested we use a bike path to get out of town.  We did and it was a nice change from being on the road.  Hélène could not get a straight answer from the girl at the information centre about Hwys' 17 and 17B. Turns out our taxi driver on Saturday was much more knowledgeable about roads and terrain.  The 17B is what we wanted to take since all the trucks go directly on the 17.  That gave us about 36kms away from the 17 which is always nice.  Hélène grumbled a while about the information centre being unable to help us with basic questions.

Echo Bay is proud to be the home of the largest Loonie in the world.  There also seems to be some competition going on with the Sudbury Nickel.

We crossed one cyclist going East to West, he also appeared to be in our age group.  I noticed two cyclists go by while Helene was taking pictures at the marina in Bruce Mine. Then another cyclist, in our age group again, passed us as we were refilling our water bottles.  We had a quick chat with him, he is going  from coast to coast.

We like the first bike with the big light

We arrived in Thessalon very early but decided to stick with the original plan of stopping there.  The camping was by the water and the bugs are almost non existent.  It allowed us to go for a swim, something we have not been able to do before.  The picture below shows off our tan lines, although it does not show in the picture Hélène's feet are also much whiter than the rest of her legs.

Great view from our home tonight

Our radio (Eton NFRX4) quit working today, the light was stuck on and the radio will not play with the light on.  We left it alone until it drained the built in battery with the light on and to our amazement we were able to play the radio again once we charged it up a bit.  So glad it's functional again.

Thank you Helen for looking up the shops for us, we will investigate them further.

Tomorrow we plan to stop in Serpent River.

56.61 miles - Total so far 2,693.41 miles
